Colorful and Modern Journey through Tarot

The first thing I have to cover is that this book is fun! It is full of personality, sparkles, and colorful pages. If you know me, then you know it’s already speaking my language. Today’s review we are checking out Read Like A Queen by Stella Boheme published by Red Feather.

Stella approaches Tarot in a playful, modern, and interactive way. You are learning Tarot and experiencing Tarot.

Her writing style makes it incredibly easy to read and engage with. The book is super approachable and uncomplicated, while managing to avoid feeling empty.

Throughout the book, she shares personal stories, which I enjoyed. I think stories allow the reader to get a better connection with the cards and how they can actually appear in life.

In Tarot, like any other cartomancy system, memorizing the cards’ meanings can be hard all at once, but if you can connect with the meaning and experience the card, it creates a mental link that lasts, and the next thing you know, you will have mastered all the key meanings of the cards.

Learning the Cards

For each card, Stella explores the meanings of the card, keywords, and common archetypes. She builds on that further, including numerology tables for the suits, astrological signs, and, of course, the elements. Enough to give a great foundation in Tarot.

For the Major Arcana, she presents a song the reader can associate with each card. Super cool and unique! Learning Tarot through music or connecting with the meanings with song is one of those things that make this an experience rather than just a lesson.

To make understanding even more accessible to the modern reader, she references pop culture throughout the book, which I found to be amusing and added to the atmosphere of the experience. Again, the power of association is very important in helping a student become a natural reader, and Stella understands that well.

My Favorite Part

Journaling Prompts. I love, love, love journaling. For me, journaling is essential. I always encourage and teach to incorporate journaling with one’s own divination journey. It helps in so many ways that I think I will write a whole article on that subject alone! Journaling and divination work beautifully together to teach and showcase to the student a physical representation of their growth.

Stella gives the reader journaling prompts to help incorporate the card deeper into their lives, learning process, and/ or self-reflection.

Meditations

In this book, Stella brings meditations into the picture with your Tarot journey. She takes the reader on a more unique path of meditation. I found it to be quite impactful and a great way to practice. They are designed in a way that even for those who say “Oh, I’m not a meditation person”, this book may surprise you. While doing all of this, Stella keeps the experience fun.

Minor Arcana

Beyond the core meanings and prompts, she also includes activities and exercises based on certain cards to bring a desired outcome and some simply to have fun. Even though we have passed the glamour of the Major Arcana, Stella finds a way to keep the reader engaged with the Minor Arcana.

Spreads

Towards the end of the book, Stella explains with detail multiple Tarot spreads. Enough for the reader to have a great footing in combining the knowledge of what they have learned on this journey.

Final Thoughts

If you are beginning your Tarot journey, this book has everything you need in an entertaining, amusing way. If you are more seasoned in the world of Tarot, you are going to enjoy it as well because it has a fresh perspective on things. It is always important to expand your knowledge and to keep seeing how some cards evolve and how people view them in a different way.

If you like to have fun with tarot, you are going to enjoy Stella Boheme’s Read Like A Queen.
